A new government prosecutor was named this Monday at the office of the prosecutor of the civil court of Port-au-Prince to replace Daniel Audin.
The new prosecutor is attorney Alcé Emane.
Attorney Daniel Audin declared last week that he was resigning from his position following pressure he claims he was subjected to by a high-ranking official in the office of the Minister of Justice.
For his part, Mr. Alcé Emane rejected reports that Mr. Audin resigned.
According to the new prosecutor, Daniel Audin was transferred to the Ministry of Justice work on administrative matters. Mr. Audin has not submitted any resignation letter, said prosecutor Emane.
The senior member of the civil court of Port-au-Prince, Judge Jean Joseph Lebrun, for his part said that the campaign against prolonged preventive detention is progressing well.
An appreciable effort was made last week in this regard by the judicial authorities, he said. Six detainees were released and three individuals who had been held in prolonged preventive detention were found guilty.
