2nd Annual North American Media Accountability Conference: Discusion on Haiti

On October 27, 2007 HaitiAnalysis’ Wadner Pierre gave a talk and showcased some of his more recent photographs at the2nd Annual Media Accountability Conference at Sonoma University in Northern California. He discussed in depth the human rights situation in the poorest districts of Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince and how he went about co-authoring the award winningIPS piece. Haiti Information Project founder and award winning documentarian Kevin Pina followed with a rousing talk; the day prior he presented his most recent film “Haiti: We Must Kill the Bandits” following the conference’s opening panel.

Journalists, students and other attendees, some who had flown from across North America, were fascinated to learn about Haiti and Wadner’s life as a young journalist struggling to cover poverty and grassroots organizations in his country. In the days prior to the conference, Dr. Peter Phillips of Sonoma University invited Wadner to provide talks at two different university lecture hall courses followed by questions and answers.
