GENEVA — The Red Cross federation says it is impossible to give all of Haiti’s earthquake survivors hurricane-proof dwellings before the storm season starts in June.
Pablo Medina of the International Federation of the Red Cross says so far only half of the 1.3 million homeless Haitians have even received tents, tarpaulins or wood – emergency shelter that won’t be able resist hurricanes.
Medina said Tuesday that aid workers are planning to set up common shelters that can withstand hurricanes for people to take refuge in.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Sunday that shelter provision was behind schedule and called for a more efficient distribution of emergency dwellings.
