Garry Conille: Empowering the Haitian Diaspora, May 24th, 2013
Leadership & Empowerment Forum: Sant Belvi – 6 Frontenac St, Dorchester, MA 02124, 6:30-9PM

The Massachusetts Coalition of Haitian Hometown Associations  (MACHHA) is pleased to invite you to a forum with Mr. Garry Conille. It would be a dialogue on the challenges of how best to empower the Haitian Diaspora of New England in order to bring opportunities in Haiti and the Haitian Diaspora communities. This event will be held on Friday, May 24th 2013. The forum will be hosted by MACHHA, together with Ilio Durandis, founder of Haiti 2015 and the Irish International Immigration Center (IIIC).

Everyday hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the Diaspora feel frustrated at the lack of progress going on in their homeland and negotiating the American immigrant experience but are even more frustrated at being unable to do much about it.  MACHHA assumes that disadvantaged and marginalized communities can create a promising future for themselves through active civic engagement, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Up to 30 active community leaders, community organizations, business representatives, media members, as well as Haitian-American elected officials, will be invited to the private luncheon forum. The Leadership & Empowerment Forum is open to the general public. The media is also encouraged to attend.

The forum theme “Haitian Diaspora Empowerment ”  reflects the sense of urgency to contribute to the systemic change that this generation is persistently calling for.

As such, we invite you to please join us in hosting the former Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille as he unveils a simple but brilliant plan that aims to empower Haitians in the Diaspora. This is an opportunity to listen and share ideas with a proven Haitian leader.

Mr. Conille will address these key issues:

-The Haitian Diaspora participation in Haiti’s civic engagement
-A common agenda for the Diaspora vis-à-vis Haiti
-The New England-Haitian Diaspora experience

Forum participants will get a chance to have some of their questions answered, and possibility to offer their input on best solutions that can empower the Haitian Diaspora. It will also be an occasion to discuss progress made by the Haitian Diaspora at organizing itself, and contribution made by Hometown associations to the development of Haiti.
