Haiti Appeals Court Reinstates Political Violence Charges Against Duvalier

The political violence charges against Duvalier were reinstated in a Port-au-Prince Appeals Court the afternoon of February 20, 2014.  The judges applied international law to rule that there is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity and emphasized Duvalier’s responsibility for the actions of the Tonton Macoutes, the paramilitary force that ran rampant during the Duvalier regime. This decision marks a huge historical moment in Haitian history and we are proud of the judges, victims, and lawyers who made it possible.

The French decision document is on the Nouvelliste site, HERE.
