Rep. Wilson Urges U.S. Support Fair Haiti Elections

Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson wrote a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging the State Department to support fair and democratic elections in Haiti. Haiti’s elections so far in 2015 have been marred by fraud, violence and other irregularities but the U.S. government has been pushing the Haitian government to proceed with the next round of elections despite the grave flaws.

December 14, 2015

The Honorable John F. Kerry
U.S. Department of State
2201 C Street, NW
Washington, DC 20520

Dear Secretary Kerry:

As a lifelong advocate and longtime representative of South Florida’s large Haitian community, I write to share my constituents’ concerns about Haiti’s 2015 elections; to advocate for an independent, Haitian-led verification of the October vote; and to request stronger measures aimed at reducing irregularities and enhancing the credibility of the run-off scheduled for December 27, 2015.
