The BAI/IJDH team in Haiti has reported in safe after Hurricane Matthew. We are very concerned, however, about the likelihood of a spike in cholera deaths as a result of the flooding.
The Haitian government is asking for people not to donate clothes or food, as that undermines local businesses. Donating funds to local Haitian grassroots groups and Haitian-led initiatives it the best path to short-term recovery. IJDH and BAI continue to work for long-term stability and prosperity, including resilience to natural disasters, by supporting good governance and an active democracy.
