Thank you to all of you who have already donated to support a just, democratic and prosperous Haiti. If you have not done so, NOW it’s the time to add your voice.
#GivingTuesday kick-starts the charitable season for organizations. At IJDH, we are grateful for those who celebrate and support nonprofit organizations like the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH).
For the past two decades IJDH and its Haitian partner organization the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI) have supported the Haitian people in their grassroots struggle for a just and democratic Haiti.
When the United Nations introduced cholera into Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake, we worked with cholera victims to hold the UN accountable for its failure to prevent the worst cholera outbreak in modern times. After six years of legal and advocacy work, the UN publicly apologized to the Haitian people and promised a New Approach to cholera in Haiti with a $400-million-package to eliminate the disease and compensate the victims.
We continue to put pressure on Member States to fund the New Approach. Though we have a long way to go until the New Approach is fully funded, we should celebrate this victory.
“Tough times but we are still winning!”
Thank you for standing with Haiti’s cholera victims,
