Researcher Dispels Myths of Haiti’s “Natural” Disaster

Refuting the claims of major world powers, Dr. Kasia Mika of KITLV makes the following points: 1) neoliberal economic and military efforts exacerbate extreme poverty in Haiti, 2) UN peacekeepers introduced cholera, 3) “aid is not always good.” Researcher Kasia Mika gives a sobered account of post-hurricane Haiti, and appears to have no axe to grind. The article concludes “it is best to donate money (not old clothes or unwanted items) to Haitian-led efforts staffed by people who have the necessary expertise to help.” Local organizations, and NGOs with a proven track record are listed here.
