PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - The Association of Caribbean Media
Workers (ACM) Tuesday condemned the beating of a number of
journalists in Haiti, including the President of the Association of
Haitian Journalists, Guyler Delva.

"Whatever the interpretation of events as they happened, there is
nothing to justify this act, " ACM President Wesley Gibbings said in
a brief statement.

Gibbings, who is returning to the Caribbean from attending an
international media conference in Jordan, said that he was still
awaiting a statement on Delva's condition, but expressed concerns
over the situation in Haiti.

A story posted on the ACM web list said that an American bodyguard of
President Boniface Alexandre beat Delva on Monday at the Surpeme
Court building. The bodyguards were reported to have been arranged by
the U.S. State Department and were members of DynCorp International
of Irving, Texas.
