an update with Haitian activist

Haitian community activist Lucie Tondreau will visit the Bay Area from South Florida with up-to-the minute news from grassroots organizers in Haiti and the Diaspora. Learn why Haitians continue to resist the US and UN occupation, and to demand the return of President Aristide. Ms. Tondreau is a member of Veye Yo and the Haitian Grassroots Coalition. Find out what you can do!

Ms. Tondreau will be introduced by Bay Area resident Jacques Depelchin. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Depelchin is the cofounder of Berkeley-based Ota Benga International Alliance for Peace and author most recently of Silences in African History: Between the Syndromes of Discovery and Abolition.

Three blocks south of El Cerrito del Norte BART station. Located two short blocks behind St. John the Baptist Church, 11150 San Pablo Ave, El Cerrito. Phone: (510) 232-5659 Parking adjacent to center or on the street. Wheelchair accessible.

>From Highway #80 heading north out of Oakland or Berkeley, take Potrero Exit, go to your right to San Pablo Ave. (first light). Cross San Pablo Ave. Continue past Kearney St. (1 short block). Lexington Ave. comes almost immediately. Turn right. St. John's Community Center is at the end of the block, at Gladys Avenue.

>From the San Rafael Bridge: Follow #580, (1 0r 2 miles) Exit at Cutting Blvd. Turn left on Cutting. Then turn right on San Pablo Ave. (Also the BART station). Continue about 3 blocks to Potrero St. Turn left and continue two short blocks to Lexington. Turn right. St. John's Community Center is at the end of the block, at Gladys Avenue.

>From Pittsburg, Antioch, Bay Point, Rodeo, and Concord Merge onto CA-4 W toward MARTINEZ/ RICHMOND. 11.75 miles. Merge onto I-80 W toward OAKLAND/ SAN FRANCISCO. 8.39 miles. Take the CUTTING BOULEVARD exit. 0.19 miles. Turn LEFT onto CUTTING BLVD. 0.15 miles. Turn RIGHT onto SAN PABLO AVE. 0.54 miles. Follow San Pablo until Potrero. Go left on Potrero, (at the Denny's). Continue two short blocks to Lexington and turn right. St. John's Community Center is at the end of the block, at Gladys Avenue.
